The Structure of Rotating Anode X-ray Tubes used in CT

The rotating anode X-ray tube comprises an electron gun connected to a high voltage source which serves as a cathode and a rotating anode assembly. The rotating anode assembly includes a generally disc-shaped target supported on vacuum bearings and the shaft. The function of the target is to decelerate the high energy electrons emitted by the electron gun to generate X-rays. Both the cathode and the anode assembly are mounted in the metal or glass shielding component (housing).
